Song & Schnauss
We’re feeling pretty creative and are announcing 2 special events.
First of all we are calling all songwriters for the City of Song Festival - Search For The Song Competition. Promoted in association with Tennent’s and independent record label Smalltown America, Music55-7 wants to find a new song to showcase at the forthcoming City of Song Festival on 25-27 September 2009 in Derry, Northern Ireland. Then there is the performance on Sunday 28th June by German electronic music guru, Ulrich Schnauss. One of the highlights of the Celtronic Festival this is a new departure for Music55-7. We have really enjoyed the work of the Celtronic Festival over the years and we are delighted to be able to co-promote this outstanding electronic composer. If you haven’t come across Ulrich before then have a listen on http://www.myspace.com/ulrichschnauss - it promises to be a sonic tour de force.

Carlos does it again!
Carlos Bonell, the guitarists’ guitarist, brought the house down once again last Sunday to round off Music55-7’s Concert Season. Providing a world class book end to an evening of wine tasting and canapes hosted by the Beech Hill Hotel,Carlos performed some of his own favourite guitar works to a wrapt audience. A brilliant communicator with the spoken word Carlos is also a wonderfully evocative player able to paint rich pictures in sound - come back soon Carlos
Our season has had many other highlights too - youthful vigour from the Badke Quartet, contemporary music with a latin twist from Lunfardia, a moving performance by Gags Beasley and Sarah Murphy in Foyleville Residential Home, the jazz great Lee Gibson, the Apple Hill Chamber Players....We also had a great time putting together the City of Song Festival, a mix of classical, indy and traditional music, and who could forget the performance by Eddi Reader - what an expressive singer.
We’re not ready to hang up our boots just yet though. Our creative music project for teenagers, Wall2Wall Music is about to embark on a very busy May and we are all looking forward to a showcase performance in St Cecilia’s College, Derry on Friday 29 May at 2.10pm. Why not come along and support the latest new work created by 34 young people which will receive its world premier then. Also in development is the River Sings project creating new music from the ebb and flow of the river Foyle...look out for updates on our website.
With our new season kicking off in September 2009 and already in the final stage of planning, we can look forward to some great musical experiences ahead!
